Welcome to our second newsletter.
|
| We've been busy talking the walk, researching some amazing new projects, polishing the bike tour week by week, gearing up slowly for Christmas... |
................................. |
|
 |
If you're anything like us you've been in denial about Christmas for months.
And now you're panicking.
Well, if you want to really shore up your hard earned outcast-of-the-family status you can buy Gift Vouchers online for all our tours.
They're pretty, they can be personalised, they fit into an envelope and they look something like this (only they're much bigger). |
What's more, our tours are light yet serious, critical yet celebratory, a little intellectual but don't take themselves too seriously.
In short, you'll look great for thinking of it.
Until it rains... |
| If
you purchase vouchers before the 20th December we will print them onto some gorgeous paper stock we've got our greasy mitts on and slip them into the post at no additional cost (one postal address per order). |

Photo Essay: 5-Suburb Derivé.

The first dozen bike tours have been, we hope, a little bit awesome.

| You can get a taste in this little photo essay Eoghan put together. |

We have prepared a mini city guide to help the design-inclined navigate this big brash city of ours.
Its crammed full of hot tips, do's and more do's, places where its fun to get lost and projects you gotta see.
Its kind of like a really urban, really cool local friend who can fold up into your back pocket and doesn't say much. |
| We update it regularly and its our gift to you at the end of every SAW tour. |

Hugo Moline joins SAW.
Winner of the prestigious Byera Hadley scholarship in 2006, graduate architect and co-author of those awesome yellow ductwork periscopes that just opened in Skittle Lane, Hugo loves Sydney for its arrogant wild beauty and the complicated, saggy and broken things below the surface and around the edge. |
Reonald Westerdijk joins SAW.
Fluent Dutch, German and English speaking architect and urban explorer, Reonald brings his brand of Super-Dutch but also a love of the city's back alleys and rugged edges to the conversation.

Over the winter break, Eoghan went to Mallorca, clambered all over the two houses Utzon built there and had the great honour of meeting Utzon's daughter Lin to discuss a quieter side of his time in and post Sydney.
We're really proud of our Utzon tour.
Its the simplest of conversations; a portrait of the architect through his most famous work but at the same time a narrative of the building from Utzon's perspective.
The story will amaze you and we're not afraid to delve deep into the messy stuff neither. |
We have included 1 Bligh Street (above) in our SAW 1 - The City, Sydney tour - a really clever building playing little sister to Renzo Piano's Aurora Place and the imposing Governor Phillip & Macquarie Towers.
We have crawled all over it, interviewed the developer and architects from Ingenhoven and Architectus. |
We had coffee with Penny Fuller of Silvester Fuller, authors of a really clever Student Housing project in Chippendale.
And we broke bread
with great mate Hamish Ginn, project architect for Smart Design on the White Rabbit Gallery in Chippendale.

Focussing on a gaggle of hi-tech, hi-profile cutting edge sky scrapers, this walk examines the city and the ideas and forces that shape it like its tides. |

Reviews.

Timeout dropped in on one of first bike tours.
Credit goes to the two lovely Gen-Y journalists.
Cycling wasn't exactly their thing but
they powered on regardless.

Projects.
|
|
SAW was created by Eoghan Lewis around the time he started Supple Design, the public side of a private practice.
We have a bunch of new projects, a couple on site and all of them look like they will be a lot of fun. |
We are always on the lookout for interesting new projects.
The difficult ones often turn out to be the best.
Drop in to our Surry Hills studios for a look, a chat and a cup of tea. |
From July 2011, 1% of every Supple commission will be donated to a range of charities including Oxfam & Bush Heritage Australia.

Help.
|
When you're small, independent and opinionated you've got to be popular to survive.
If you like what we do it would be wonderful if you told someone about it - like Tripadvisor or your favourite blog.
