Fico Bar
A follow up project for the lovely folk from Il Baretto.
Inspired by the raw, honesty approach of early 20th Century Swedish architect Sigurd Lewerentz and the memory of a smokey boudoir which we heard about but could never find, we began peeling back the layers of the once legendary 'Café Nicky' whilst carefully inserting a 'constructed', almost hand-made interior.
The palette of materials is a little expected, a little eclectic; formwork plywood, copper and bronze, cow hide, pressed tin, electrical and plumbing components, kangaroo skin and paint.
"The aggregation of these elements means Fico sits shotgun in the expansive drive of the small restaurant-bar in Sydney: both a consummate antithesis of city boozebarns, and symptomatic of an increasing sophistication in this town's drinking." Alex Vitlin, twothousand
Forgive our dodgy photos. It only recently opened. Let us know what you think!
