We are interested in ...

We are interested in exploring the innovative in architecture; in finding tactics and solutions that are conceptually interesting, culturally relevant, environmentally intelligent, contextually sensitive and aesthetically engaging.

Each new project begins quietly and optimistically. Armed with a set of questions and a line of research or enquiry (as opposed to a pre-packaged 'style' or set of solutions) we go quietly, like detectives in a foreign landscape, looking for what is latent or already there, what is unique or particular to each project. We try to unlock the possibilities of project and place through a negotiation if you like, of already present possibilities. It is a strategy adapted from our research and love for the great Danish architect Jørn Utzon and from the work of some of his students, like Michael Tawa and Richard Leplastrier who in turn became our teachers and mentors.
We have no style as such (ask any of our colleagues), but what we do have is a very clear and consistent approach or methodology as well as a set of concerns we hold dear. We are ecological in our outlook, rational in our pursuits (with a soft spot for the poetic) and we hope these concerns are clear in every decision at every scale through every project.

Our work ranges from the design of public buildings and single-family houses to the design of interiors and furniture.
The images to the right will take you to some recent projects in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney ranging from housing & commercial buildings to interiors and architectural competitions.
