Architectural Competition for a new pool
Sydney, 2002
UAC - Ultimo Aquatic Centre
We thought we had nailed this one, but that do-gooder Harry Seidler, former high priest of 'the wrap' or the 'brushover' (monsieur Murcutt is another deserving memeber of that club) ended up getting the gong. Jeesh it musta been neck and neck there for a while. You can almost imagine the conversation, the chirlish intellectual banter, the to-ing and fro-ing and heated debate between learned and respected judges on the various merits of each scheme ('isn't their roof sweet', 'oh sure, but just look at harry's spotty bow-tie, and a nice brushover too!)
No prizes, no joy, (judges clearly had no idea, nor i might add, had they ever heard of 'irony'). Our good friends at Vim Design shared the adventure. We got to learn how Adam likes his tea though (white with one). Who says architectural competitions in this city are a rort and a waste of time.
