Historically the centre of Sydney’s rag trade and home to one of the countries largest breweries, the transformation of Chippendale over the last decade has been nothing short of spectacular.

Join us on this gritty architectural tour of the inner-city suburb of Chippendale. Our route will be structured around a number of contemporary architectural, art and urban interventions including projects by Pritzker-prize winning architects Norman Foster and Jean Nouvel.

Our focus will be a series of transformative and inspiring projects by local heroes Durbach Block Jaggers, William Smart, John Wardle Architects, Tonkin Zulaikha Greer, Oculus and Aspect Studios.

We will check out one of Australia’s finest social housing schemes, private art galleries, converted warehouses, inspired laneway developments, sustainable mixed-use urban developments, street art and discuss audacious plans to transform the rail lands behind Central Station as we explore this groovy neighbourhood.

The tour will finish with the competition-winning Atlassian Central, designed by New York firm SHoP Architects in collaboration with BVN. Once complete, this building will be the tallest commercial hybrid timber structure in the world.
