Tour Details.
A pedestrian artery for thousands of years, the ancient walking track from Circular Quay to the fresh water spring known as the Tank Stream is now Sydney’s meandering George Street spine.
Tracing a route from Circular Quay to Sydney Town Hall we will explore George, flirting with its public and private edges as we trespass recklessly through territory political, cultural, social and architectural. Charles Darwin’s 1836 narrative along the same path will inflect our journey as we examine the spine of Sydney and reflect on Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore’s transformative urban strategies.
The defining urban, architectural and public art elements that give George Street its personality will be our focus including master works by Seidler, Candalepas, Johnson Pilton Walker, fjcstudio, Alexander Calder, Grimshaw Architects, John Andrews and QVB architect George McRae.
Meeting Point.
Customs House (forecourt). 31 Alfred St, Sydney – 1 minute walk from Circular Quay Station.
